I have encountered many many rain delays in my highschool and college playing experience. Rain delays certaintly are not fun, but at the same time can allow you the chance to regain your thoughts and calm yourself down especially in the event you are playing bad.

The adverse effect can happen, though, if you are playing well. You may go back on the golf course after a 2 hour weather delay and starting playing poorly.

Sure, everyone has to play in the same tournament. Why not do something that will benefit yourself if your competitors are not going to?

One word. STRETCH.

Thats right, simply stretch. Use that time to keep yourself loose. Find a space to swing a golf club. Use the time to stretch those muscles while everyone else is sitting in the snack bar chugging down cokes and eating hot dogs. Its a bad feeling setting up to your golf shot after a 2 hour rain delay and hoping to hit it well. What makes it suck during a rain delay is in many tournaments (not all), you don’t get to hit balls before heading back on the course.

I have cold topped a golf shot before because I wasn’t properly stretched before hitting my shot nearly 2 hours after the horn went off.

So find yourself an open spot and do some light swinging, some light toe touches and arm stretches.

When you get on the course, you strong feel loose and ready to go where your playing partners might just be starting a small stretching routine before they hit their shot.

Take advantage of a weather delay, chances are, your competitors are not.
