Mizuno MP 32
The Mizuno MP 32 forged blades will soon be my new sticks! I have been playing with Cleveland TA 7 Tour irons and I just cannot get used to them and honestly don’t like them at all. I don’t like the look at address, in the bag, anyway shape or form! They are really good improvement clubs, but they just are not for me. With that said I have been in the market for some new sticks and I do believe I’ve found them in the Mizuno MP 32’s with the new cut muscle technology. I played forged blades for years and went to cavity back and it was a mistake, BIG TIME! I like the look of blades so much better and it gives me so much confidence to hit a certain shot.
Along with the Cleveland clubs just not suiting my eye, they were standard everything. I’ve never had a club customized for me until here soon when I get the Mizuno’s! I went today and had a static testing done to see what length of shaft I would need, what lie, and even what stiffness. Seems for the last ohh 7 years or so I’ve been playing equipement that was not suited for me! So along with the added confidence these sticks are going to bring to the table for me, plus knowing now that I need the shafts to be 1/4 of an inch longer, and bent two degrees upright, but I also probably am going to go with x100 (extra stiff) shafts because I do have a pretty high swing speed. It just so happens that today at the golf store when I got statically fitted, the iron they gave me to swing was a Mizuno MP 32!
These irons are the BOMB. They were awarded Golf Magazine’s “Top Pick” and winner of 2005 “Editors’ Choice” in Golf Digest, and with good reason. These things are so soft and it feels like the ball stays on the club face for a very long time giving you awesome feel with each shot. The new Cut Muscle design in each iron gives a more consistance sweet spot location in each club along with a deeper center of gravity. Although they are not cavity backs, the cut muscle design has some cavity back quality making them one of the most forgiving blades on the market period. Not to mention that Mizuno has been the number one iron on the PGA tour for something like the last 7 years.
Anyway, if you’re a mid to low handicapper and want a new iron I beg you to try these things, I only caution you that you will be wanting to purchase some in the near future if you try them so keep that in mind!
If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me. I’ll be doing a follow up this article after I actually get the irons and play a round or two with them.

I definitly want to try these. A guy at my local club has some of these (or a different model) but is willing to sell them to be pretty cheap (they are almost brand new). I need to try them first.
For me, I have been using the same clubs since I 1998, Titleist 962’s, cavity back. I have never played a blade/forged club before, but I hear once you try them, your hooked.
Anyways, thanks for the writeup Deron. I hope to try some in the next week or so.
I have also been eyeing the new Ping S59 Irons. They look pretty sweet.

I started playing with blades probably to early in my golfing career as I was to young and inexperienced. But I made do with what I had and got to like them…but they were old and not as forgiving as the ones made now. I’m dying to go back to them, its really true that you’ll never go back to cavity back once you try a blade for me there is just no comparison.
Thanks for the two links!

Those look like some fantastic irons - the 360 degree picture view links are great. I have Mizunos and just love them (mp14) but I was never fitted like you were. I guess using clubs with the wrong lie can really mess things up (opens or closes the face because of the loft vs lie angle). I have been tempted to extend my irons an inch to improve my posture at address but am hesitant because I hear that would turn the stiff shaft into something else.
After reading your post Deron, I think that I’ll go get tested - or at least put club fitting on my to do list

Rich,
I am glad you got something from the article. It is best to be dynamically fitted for clubs, but I know that’s a hard option for a lot of us depending on your location. A lot of pros do not dynamically fit, they just do what I had done which took all of about 3 mintues to do and consisted of measuring my wrist to the floor length and then me swinging on a lie board to determine what lie I need. As far as you getting your irons lengthend it really all depends on how tall you are. Which I think in dynamically fitting there are some other factors, but just basic static fitting they see how tall you are and like I said measure the distance from your wrist to the floor. I am 6′2” and I only need 1/4 of an inch longer, so you may not need a whole inch (I don’t know how tall ya are) Thanks for reading.

I am 6 ft (ok, 5 ft 11 1/2 :)), and my clubs are about 1/4 ” longer too.
Most likely, when I get some new irons, WHICH I WILL BE SOON, I will have them custom fitted.
I am also 1 degree upright.

I’m 6-3 and played T-zoids for years right off the shelf. Same with my newer MacGregors. Your stance is everything.
I’ve been looking at those same clubs, but with my advancing years I don’t know that I can handle the blades any more. They sure feel good when you hit them right, though! And I’m a solid Mizuno fan. I keep looking for an excuse to go back.
