U.S. Open Torrey Pines 2008Starting next Thursday, June 12th, the 2008 U.S. Open tournament begins with reigning Champion Ángel Cabrera attempting to repeat. Torrey Pines South Course measures in at a beastly 7,643 yards with par being 71. The course is actually 379 yards longer then any previous U.S. Open course in history.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will most likely be the “star” pairing for Thursday and Friday. Rumor has it, the two players don’t necessarily share the best friendship. See the full pairings below.

According to this informational page, since 1991, only Tiger Woods and Retief Goosen have finished better than 40th in trying to defend their Open crowns. Goosen finished tied for 11th in 2005 after holding a three-stroke lead after 54 holes. Tiger Woods finished 12th in 2001 after winning in 2000. He tied for 20th in 2003 after winning in 2002.
