This Thursday marks the beginning of an event many Tour players consider a 5th Major Championship. Played at the TPC at Sawgrass, spectators and viewers alike get to watch the PGA’s top players battle it out at the Stadium course for The Players Championship. The TPC at Sawgrass is of course most popular for its infamous 17th hole island green that has cost many players multiple strokes and sometimes the tournament itself.

But why is it considered by many to be a “Major”? Two specific things:

• It contains the largest tournament purse of the year at roughly $9 million.
• It provides the winner a 5 year PGA Tour exemptions, which happens to be the same amount of exemptions handed to winners of the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA Championship.

Regarding swing quality, I like various things and hate others. I hate how upright my swing is here. However, I like that I am not over swinging and keeping it close to 3/4 swings. I cast a little bit, which hurts distance and accuracy, but I think at the time I was compensating for the cast and making last second adjustments near impact that allowed me to still hit quality shots.

At the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, the final duel into playoff hole #2 was great to watch today between the aussie’s Adam Scott and Ryan Moore. Adam Scott won the two hole playoff with an incredible putt of roughly 45 feet across the entire 17th green. Ryan Moore’s putt, just slightly off the green, failed to drop but was still an impressive run.

Though I love watching Adam Scott play, I was rooting for the young 26 year old Ryan Moore. Ryan does not have any professional wins, and many probably remember his quality playing at the 2006 PGA Championship where he placed 9th, but I remember had quite a bit of television coverage. So it would have been great to see Ryan pick up a “W” today, it just didn’t happen. I also forgot about his swing, which is…unique. See below.

This is another video of me hitting a driver on #11 at Harbour Trees Golf Course. I hit it pretty good!

That is exactly what the gallery was chanting as Boo Weekley successfully defended his Verizon Heritage title this past Sunday. Weekley carded an even par 71 beating out competitors Anthony Kim and Aaron Baddeley.

The closest anyone in the field got to Weekley was within a few shots. Jim Furyk made an early charge where he sat 6 back and cut it to 3 within his first 5 holes. However, that charge stumbled by hole 11.

Boo earned himself a nice check of $900,000 and another invitation to the Masters. I wouldn’t Boo about that.

So I just got done reading Golf.com’s article on Snedeker’s good cry earns support with fans and must say I am left scratching my head. I fully understand the emotions the guy is going through after letting go of an opportunity to win the Masters. I also don’t mind that he cried on television. No big deal in my opinion. What kinda bothers me is the media reporting and the “sing kumbaya” mentality people are having. I think its good to extend a hand out to someone who had a rough time, but from reading this article…I get the impression the media and Snedeker himself, are milking the emotional on camera cry for all it’s worth. I would much rather see him be public about his emotions then to go sit in a dark room drinking himself into a coma, but I just hope this isn’t a story that will hang on much longer.

“I made the decision to deal with the pain and schedule the surgery for after the Masters,” Woods said. “The upside is that I have been through this process before and know how to handle it. I look forward to working through the rehabilitation process and getting back to action as quickly as I can.”

Tiger will take 1 month off to recover, most likely missing the Players Championship, but hopefully will be 100% by the time the U.S. Open arrives at Torrey Pines.
