Jack Nicklaus became the first player to win back-to-back Masters titles, defeating Tommy Jacobs and Gay Brewer in an 18-hole playoff. Nicklaus shot 70 in the playoff while Jacobs shot 72 and Brewer shot 78. Gay Brewer would return to win the following year.
