The Majors

Explore the history, results, and video archive for all four of golf's major championships — The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship.

About the Major Championships

Golf’s four major championships represent the pinnacle of the sport. Each year, the world’s best players compete at these prestigious events for the chance to etch their names into history alongside the greatest champions the game has ever known. The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship together form the Grand Slam of golf — winning all four in a single calendar year remains one of sport’s most coveted and elusive achievements.

The Masters

Since 1934

Held annually at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The first of the four major championships each year, played in early April. Rory McIlroy finally completed his Career Grand Slam by winning the Masters at his 17th attempt, one of the most anticipated victories in golf history. McIlroy had finished runner-up multiple times and the green jacket had become the one piece of silverware missing from his trophy cabinet. His emotional walk up the 18th brought Augusta to tears as the Northern Irishman claimed his place among golf's immortals.

PGA Championship

Since 1916

Organized by the PGA of America and contested annually since 1916. One of the four major championships in professional golf. Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow for his first PGA title, shooting 271 (-17) to win by three shots over Rory McIlroy. Scheffler's combination of distance control, iron play, and putting made him virtually unstoppable on the demanding course. The win added the PGA Championship to his two Masters titles and confirmed his status as the dominant player of his generation.

U.S. Open

Since 1895

Organized by the United States Golf Association. One of golf's four major championships and one of the most prestigious events in the sport.

The Open Championship

Since 1860

The oldest of the four major championships, having been first played in 1860. Known as The Open or the British Open outside the UK. Scottie Scheffler produced one of the most dominant performances in modern Open Championship history at Royal Portrush, finishing 17-under par — four clear of runner-up Harris English — to claim the Claret Jug and complete the third leg of his career Grand Slam. Scheffler joins an elite group including Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Gary Player in winning The Masters, the PGA Championship, and The Open before the age of 30.
