Nick Faldo won the first of his three Masters titles in a sudden-death playoff over Scott Hoch. Hoch missed a short par putt on the first playoff hole (10th) to keep the playoff alive, and Faldo birdied the next hole (11th) to win. Faldo's victory began a remarkable run of European success at Augusta.
