The Open Championship
Runner-up: Reg Whitcombe
Henry Cotton won his second Open Championship at Carnoustie. Cotton played brilliantly in terrible weather, shooting a final-round 71 in lashing rain and wind. He won by two strokes over Reg Whitcombe. Cotton was now clearly the best British player of his generation.
