The Open Championship
Runner-up: Frank Stranahan
Ben Hogan made his only Open Championship appearance and won. Hogan had been practicing on links courses for weeks beforehand. He set a Carnoustie course record in the final round with 68 and won by four strokes. Hogan won all four events he entered in 1953 (Masters, US Open, Open Championship), the nearest anyone has come to a modern Grand Slam.
