Kel Nagle won the Centenary Open at St Andrews, edging out Arnold Palmer who was attempting to complete a modern Grand Slam having won the Masters and US Open. Nagle held his nerve in the final round to win by a stroke. Palmer's arrival brought massive American media attention back to The Open.
