The Open Championship
Runner-up: Jack Nicklaus
Tony Lema, "Champagne Tony," won The Open Championship at St Andrews in only his second trip to Britain. He relied heavily on caddie Tip Anderson's knowledge of the Old Course and played with remarkable ease for a links newcomer. Lema beat Jack Nicklaus by five strokes. He died in a plane crash two years later.
