The Open Championship
Runner-up: Doug Sanders
Jack Nicklaus won in a playoff after Doug Sanders missed a three-foot putt on the 72nd hole that would have won The Open outright. Sanders' miss on 18 remains one of the most painful moments in golf history. In the playoff Nicklaus won 72-73, famously throwing his cap in the air after holing the winning putt.
