The Open Championship
Runner-up: Tony Jacklin
Lee Trevino chipped in for par from off the 17th green in the final round, a shot that broke Tony Jacklin's spirit. Jacklin, playing alongside Trevino, three-putted the same hole and never recovered. Trevino holed another chip on the 71st hole to win by a stroke. Jacklin never seriously contended in a major again. One of the most dramatic and cruel endings in Open history.
