The Open Championship
Runner-up: Tom Watson
One of the most emotional finishes in Open history. Tom Watson, aged 59, led by one stroke playing the 72nd hole and needed only a par to win his sixth Claret Jug. His approach shot overshot the green and he missed the chip to fall into a playoff. Stewart Cink won the four-hole aggregate playoff convincingly, 15-18. The golfing world was heartbroken for Watson.
