Francesco Molinari became the first Italian to win a major championship, winning at Carnoustie with a flawless final round 69. Tiger Woods was in contention entering the final round but made double bogey on the 11th hole. Molinari did not make a single bogey in his final two rounds. Rory McIlroy, Kevin Kisner, and Xander Schauffele all finished joint runner-up.
