Payne Stewart defeated Scott Simpson in an 18-hole playoff, 75-77. Stewart had won the 1989 PGA Championship and now added the US Open. Both players struggled in the playoff on a windy day at Hazeltine. Stewart wore his trademark plus-fours knickerbockers throughout.
