Tiger Woods, playing on a fractured left tibia and torn ACL, won an 18-hole Monday playoff against journeyman Rocco Mediate after 91 total holes. Woods had holed a birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force a tie. The extended battle — the most watched US Open ever — saw Woods win on the 19th sudden-death hole. Woods revealed after winning that he was having surgery and would miss the rest of the season.
