Vic Ghezzi won the PGA Championship in a major upset, defeating Byron Nelson 1-up in the 38-hole final. Nelson had been the heavy favorite and Ghezzi fought back from deficit multiple times during the match. It was the only major championship victory of Ghezzi's career.
