Chick Harbert won the PGA Championship by defeating defending champion Walter Burkemo 4&3 in the 36-hole final. Harbert had previously been runner-up in 1947 and 1952. Reversing his loss to Burkemo from the previous year's final, Harbert was dominant throughout the week.
