Doug Ford won the PGA Championship by defeating Cary Middlecoff 4&3 in the 36-hole final. Ford was known as one of the fastest players on tour, rarely taking more than a minute over any shot. His victory over Middlecoff, the Masters champion that year, was a convincing one.
