PGA Championship
Runner-up: Jack Nicklaus
Hal Sutton won the PGA Championship at Riviera Country Club, defeating Jack Nicklaus by one shot. Sutton had been hyped as the heir apparent to Nicklaus and his victory against the Bear himself was telling. Sutton famously told himself "This is for you, Jack" as he hit his approach to the 18th hole, then watched it roll close for birdie.
