Mark Brooks won the PGA Championship in a sudden-death playoff over local favorite Kenny Perry at Valhalla Golf Club. Perry had led entering the final round and had the title seemingly within his grasp before Brooks forced the playoff. Brooks made birdie on the first playoff hole to claim his only major championship.
