Rich Beem pulled off one of the great upsets in major championship history, holding off a final-round charge by Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship. Beem birdied four of the last six holes to build enough of a cushion that even Woods's closing birdie blitz could not catch him. Beem was a journeyman professional whose win was one of the most popular in years.
